About Shiny Things
From producing shows to helping others progress in their own journey, Shiny Things is all about the love of the incredible art of improvisational comedy
Shiny Things began on a rooftop in Holloway in the summer of 2021. Then called Roofprov, it was a post-pandemic improv show on Aram Balakjian’s roof terrace, featuring up-and-coming teams eager to perform when opportunities were few and far between. It quickly grew into a well renowned show (renamed Shiny Things), and a thriving community, many of whom are still performing across London today.
After years of producing shows—including two Edinburgh Fringe runs—Aram expanded Shiny Things beyond production, creating this resource full of tips, tricks, and behind-the-scenes insights to help London’s improv scene thrive.
And yes, we still put on our own shows! But we also believe that supporting and inspiring others in doing the same strengthens and connects our incredible improv community in one of the greatest cities in the world.
A short History
About Aram
Improv has been slowly taking over Aram’s life for over six years. Ever since his very first class at The Free Association in London, he has been in love with the art form and truly believes in its power for good. He’s produced, and performed in, countless shows in all manner of venues from from dingy local pubs, to festivals like VAULT and Edinburgh Fringe.
As well as running Shiny Things, he is currently a member of three teams, Fluff, Space Planet Mission, and NANA. He also coaches new teams (get in touch to book), and is a member of the The Free Association’s teaching and management team.
